Encouraging someone I don't know with a quilt

Scripture/Prayer Quilt
For Louise Kobliska
Fabric ordered 10/21/21 /Arrived 10/28/21
Finished November 7, 2021

Sheila came to me and asked me to make a scripture quilt for her friend, Louise Kobliska. Louise's husband Shawn had passed away unexpectedly. I knew of the Kobliskas through LivingWell as well as Forest Lake Christian School but had never met them.

I had several quilts that I was trying finish before Christmas. But, this quilt request was one that I couldn't deny.

I found some different scripture verses on fabric. Sheila selected a scripture panel that included Psalm 23 from Etsy.

Sheila said that Louise liked the color blue. That was not a problem for me since a third of my stash is blue or aqua.

Once the scripture panel arrived, Sheila and I met at my house to look through my fabric and pick what she liked to border the blocks. Then we headed to Ben Franklins to get fabric for the background, backing, and binding.

They had a solid light blue fabric on the flat fold table that matched the panel. The backing was a blue swirly fabric also found on the flat fold. Sheila loves a great deal as much as I do.

After we purchased the light blue fabric, I returned to the store to get more. The blue fabric would work well for the border for the quilt I was re-doing for Tiffany - Something Blue Made New.

Once I got home, I stitched up all the blocks. I laid them out in rows. With frequent checking in with Sheila for her approval/sign-off via text, the quilt came together.

I did a meander stitch across the quilt. I have been practicing fmq and feel confident enough in my ability that I could do the meander and have it look nice.

Before the weekend was over, I had the quilt finished and ready for the hand sewn binding. I finished the binding within a few days.

Sheila said that Louise loved the prayer quilt.

Making a quilt from a panel was stretching for me. I had never made a quilt this way before and I was itching to make something with more of a design element. But this is the style Sheila chose so I went with it. However, I must admit that it made the process go much quicker.

Every quilt tells a story. This is the story of making a quilt in one week for someone I didn't know but was honored and blessed to encourage her during a difficult time.

Every Quilt Tells A Story
Whether it is the fabrics chosen, the design, the colors, the occasion, the recipient, or the people I quilt with, every quilt tells a story. This blog captures in images and words what has been created for others and for my own home through the hum and stitching of my sewing machine.
