A quilt for Angela
Even though I gifted quilts to my entire family last Christmas, I knew I had to make this one for Angela once I saw it.
She loves playing Scrabble, Bunko, and doing puzzles.
Using a website called Crossword Hobbyist, I plugged in all the words I could think of that describe her and her interests.
I had a large supply of the white star/blue fabric leftover from Tiffany's patriotic table runner that would match the navy-blue theme of her home.
Using my computer, I selected a font that had straight bold lines.
Next, I ironed Heat & Bond to the dark blue fabric and pinned my font "patterns" to cut them out. Then I ironed these letters onto the white squares. I used a tight blanket stitch around the letters. There is a lot of stopping and started to get around those curved edges.
This pattern uses all 5" squares and went together quickly once the letters were finished.
I used the same navy fabric and leftover blue/white star squares for the backing.
I did SID down the seams for the quilting. One day soon, I hope to be able to FMQ.
I plan to give it to her for Christmas.
Every quilt tells a story. This is the story of making a Scrabble Puzzle Quilt for my sister, learning about the wonders of Heat & Bond, and finishing a Christmas gift.
Every Quilt Tells A Story
Whether it is the fabrics chosen, the design, the colors, the occasion, the recipient, or the people I quilt with, every quilt tells a story. This blog captures in images and words what has been created for others and for my own home through the hum and stitching of my sewing machine.
