For Mother

Operation Christmas Quilt 2019 continues.

I've previously mentioned, I decided to make quilts for everyone for Christmas this year. During the summer, while in Colorado, I asked my mom and sisters to pick out a pattern and fabric colors, and I would make them a quilt.

Rather than a full size quilt, my mom requested a bed runner and pillow shams for her king size bed to go with her Cabbage Rose window treatments.

She gave me a table topper square with the Cabbage Rose fabric. She also said that she liked sage green. I enjoyed picking out fabrics that would go with these colors. One fabric in particular that I found was marbled looking.

For the pillow shams, I researched and found the correct sizing for king size pillows and made them accordingly. Until I made these items, I never realized how wide a king size bed really is. The bed runner and the shams seemed to go on forever.

With all of the scrap pieces remaining from the bed runner and the shams, I made two extra throw pillows.

We are making progress on Operation Christmas Quilts!

Update - In June 2020 during my annual summer visit, I finished off the bedroom set making a dust ruffle and three more throw pillows with some fabric my mom was about to donate or pass along to me. We found that the fabric colors for the dust ruffle and extra pillows matched the bedroom set that I had made previously and brought in more of the green color she was wanting to highlight.  She had 3 brand new pillows she was also going to give to me. I cut these up and made pillow forms for the additional throw pillows.

Every quilt tells a story. This is the story of making a bedroom set fit for a king including pillow shams, bed runner, throw pillows and a dust ruffle.

Every Quilt Tells A Story
Whether it is the fabrics chosen, the design, the colors, the occasion, the recipient, or the people I quilt with, every quilt tells a story. This blog captures in images and words what has been created for others and for my own home through the hum and stitching of my sewing machine.
